Every few months I like to spend a weekend with a soulful group of people in a life-drawing workshop. It is a great way to relax and recharge, whilst producing some unusually spontaneous art.
The drawings arise as I observe life models moving to music, creating different moods. I respond with intuitive mark-making, using natural media – clay on my hands, Chinese ink, sponges, feathers, reeds, chalk and the occasional brush - usually taking only a minute or two to complete my response. It’s a little like a meditation through drawing.
Occasionally an image arises that captures the beauty or the mood of the pose. As the images are created on lining paper, they will not last, so one or two meaningful drawings from the weekend might be scanned and fine art prints made using fade-proof giclee inks on museum quality paper.
Here is the latest – ‘Slow Dancer’.
